Korean Hawaii or Jeju Island

Welcome to the board! Today we will have a trip to Jeju island. A few days ago I was sorting my old pictures, and I found some photos from my trips to Jeju Island, which is located in the South part of South Korea. Probably, many of you have already heard about that island, or maybe you already had a chance to visit it. So, some of you will learn something new, and some of you will remind some old stories. If be honest I have a loooot of photos, so I have a lot of stories to tell you too. But let’s start from the very beginning :) So, we will take a flight with Jeju Air, and in less than an hour, we will arrive at Jeju airport. Jeju Island or Jeju-do (제주도) was calles Quelpart Island till 1946. The name comes from the name of a European ship. However, in the past, this island had different names: Donyenju, Juho, Thamora, Somna, Thanna, Thamna, etc. Why do Korean people call this island Jeju-Do when foreigners call it Jeju Island or even Jejudo island? The answer can be found in the ling

Annual K-Beauty Fair: a day around Korean beauty

Hi, Everyone! Travelling to Korea is not just about visiting Korean historical and cultural places, eating Korean food, watching traditional performances, etc. Travel to Korea is also might be a visiting Korean beauty fair, which opens about twice a year. Actually, there are much more beauty fairs in Korea, but a huge-scaled one is usually 1–2 times a year. In this post, I will share with you one of them, which is called Inter Charm. I have been to such Beauty Fairs many times. Just as a visitor, or as a part of my job, or just passing by. Usually, Beauty Fair takes a place in COEX (Seoul) or KINTEX (Ilsan) exhibition centers. I liked COEX one more, because it is located close to my place, and because COEX is not just an exhibition center, it is also a huge trade-shopping-business-conventional-entertainment, etc center. You can find a lot of stuff to do, to eat, to enjoy, to read, to shop…here. Like with many other festivals and fairs, InterCharm was also in Fall. It is usually October

Good bye Fall, Hello Winter! Part II: Lantern Festival

Fall has gone and left us just sweet memories of different exciting festivals. Last time I told you about the Festival of Kimchi , today I will tell you about another nice festival. Every year, but actually twice a year, there is a Lantern Festival in Korea. Usually one is in May, and another one is in November. Well, Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit Korea. Both of the festivals are related to Buddhism. In May Korea celebrates a Buddha’s birthday. I don’t know what is a Buddhist holiday in November, but I will try to find it next time. I am going to this festival every time and still can’t get enough of it. Why? Because it is really fantastic! The main point of the festival is plenty of beautiful, creative, incredible lantern figures. And during the night all these figures are shining. Furthermore, these lanterns are not just random figures, a line of some of them shows some stories, or maybe even Korean culture or history. Like in the picture above, a group of people in

Time flies, and I think everyone will agree with me. It seems just yesterday I was thinking about how to celebrate New Year 2019, but it is already December 2019, and it is time to think about how to celebrate New Year 2020. But before it, let’s talk about some festivals and events which have been in Seoul this year. Kimchi Festival 2018 Last year, this year was a Kimchi festival in Seoul. I couldn’t go there by myself this year, but I read the news and talked to my friends, who have been there. It was almost the same as last year. Different booths of different companies, who is somehow related to kimchi. Btw, you know what is kimchi, right? Kimchi is a traditional Korean salad. But it is not a fresh salad, it is fermented with special species one. Traditionally, kimchi is made of cabbage, but actually, there are more than 100 sorts of kimchi. Kimchi can be made of all types of vegetables. The Festival took a place in Seoul Plaza Square, which is located in front of Seoul City Hall. Ki
